Maintaining No. 2 Bulletin Place’s Huge Waved Gold Leafed Wall Office Building Foyer.
No. 2 Bulletin Place, an office building in Sydney’s central business district, is known for its stunning gilded foyer. In 1998, the renowned Art Gilding team executed a breathtaking gilding job on the 125-square-meter wall in the foyer. For over two decades, the wall has dazzled countless visitors with its opulence and beauty. However, the wall has suffered wear and tear over time, and restoration work had become necessary.
The Art Gilding team was recently called back to No 2 Bulletin Place to address the wall’s maintenance needs. The team was tasked with applying a band of Dutch Metal Leaf over a length of 18 linear meters to a height of 1.2 meters. While it may sound like a simple task, it presented many challenges for our team. Working so close to the ground can be challenging and requires great skill and patience.
The restoration job was entrusted to Krissie and Steve, two Master Class Students of Art Gilding. Working together with Karl and I, they did an incredible job that we were immensely proud of. The result is stunning, and the client could not be more pleased. The only small noticeable difference is that the new band’s color looks a bit lighter than the original gilding. However, as it ages, it will darken and blend seamlessly with the rest of the wall.
The foyer wall at No 2 Bulletin Place stands as a testament to the Art Gilding team’s skills and expertise. Their mastery of gilding has helped preserve the building’s beauty and history, ensuring that it continues to inspire awe for generations to come. Another job well done by the Art Gilding team!
