Gold leaf frame restoration at St Joseph’s College, Sydney
St. Joseph’s College, one of Sydney’s leading private secondary schools, owns a large collection of paintings. Many of them are over 100 years old and are in their original frames. Art Gilding has been working with St Joseph’s College for many years helping to restore the frames of this wonderful collection.
In 2011 during the winter school holidays, Art Gilding restored a very large frame 3m x 2.4m. Because of the large size of the frame the year 10 classroom was provided as work place. All work had to be finished during the school holidays. That gave Art Gilding only two weeks for this large restoration to be completed. Not meeting the deadline was never an option for Art Gilding as they aim to always complete restoration work on time and budget to the full satisfaction of the client.
One of our students from the Master Class, Ana, was given the opportunity to assist Karl with the restoration at St Joseph’s College. Ana was overjoyed to be given this opportunity of hands on experience.
